Pedal, trek, paddle, or tour and explore ..
The Great Glen Hostel is surrounded by rivers to paddle, hills to climb, canals to stroll by, historic sites to visit and cycle tracks to explore. On these pages there are some suggestions of things to do in the local area.
The Great Glen Way (long distance footpath between Fort William and Inverness) is just 200m from the hostel; it's a day or two's walk from Fort William to here. If you want to escape into the hills we're surrounded by 'Munros' in Glen Garry, Glen Dessary, Glen Spean and the Great Glen. For more info on local trails have a look at our Walks pages or at Walk Highlands suggestions of hikes in this area. If you prefer to paddle, the Garry, Spean, Roy and Moriston rivers are within easy reach - and the Great Glen Canoe Trail runs just behind the hostel. If you're bringing a bike, there's some ideas for local rides on our cycling page.
We're in an excellent location for exploring the Highlands and we can advise on day trips from here taking in sights such as Glenfinnan, the sands of Morar, Loch Ness, the Isle of Skye, and the castles of Urquhart and Eilean Donan. Or why not leave your car at the hostel for the day, and explore the area on foot and using public transport? Have a look at our car-free itineraries for ideas or visit some local historical sites.
There's loads more ideas for things to do around here on the Outdoor Capital fo the UK and Lochaber Geopark websites.
